ABOUT
ALUMINIUM
Aluminium has been produced for 146
years and is still a very young metal. Mankind
has been using copper, lead and tin for thousands
of years and yet today more aluminium is produced
than all other non-ferrous metals. Primary
production in 1999 was about 22 million tons
and secondary production was 7 million tons.
The total of some 29 million tons compare
with 14.1 million tons of copper, 6.0 million
tons of lead and 0.2 million tons of tin
• It exists
in the nature named as Bauxit ore
• The scientist
who separates aluminium from its compounds
in the nature is Sir Humphrey Davy
• A process
for producing Aluminium was described by Friedrich
Wöhler (Germany) in 1827
• Paul Louis
Toussaint Héroult (France) and Charles Martin
Hall (USA), working separately and unaware
of each other's work, simultaneously invent
a new electrolytic process.
• Start
year of Aluminium industry was 1886
• K.J.Bayer
produced alumina (Al2O3) from bauxit ore
• 4 units
Bauxit >> 2 units Alumina >> 1
unit Aluminium recovers
• Jules
Verne said about aluminium
Aluminium has;
Brightness of silver
Nobility of gold
Strength of iron
Obedient of copper
Esthetic of glass
Easy processing
Easy finding
1/3 in weight of iron
ALUMINIUM IN TURKEY
•
Nobody knows bauxit ore is in the underground
richnesses Turkey, till 1938.
• Technical
Mine Association determined bauxit reserves
were bauhmitic type and sufficieny in Seydişehir
of Konya and decided to assemble a plant in
1962.
• Etibank
Seydişehir Aluminium plant was assembled in
1974 with a capacity of 60.000 tons/year •
Tesisin yıllık üretim kapasitesi 60.000 ton
dur.
• Bauxit
reserve in Turkey is approximately 60 million
tons.
• Per capita
consumption in Turkey is about 3 kg (1995) ALUMINIUM IN THE WORLD
Consumption of primary aluminium in
about 22 million tons/year on the world 86%
of it is consumed in Europe, America, Africa,
Japan. The rest 14% in Fareast, Asia, Oceania,
East Europe and China
